ADULTPLANTS

Terms of use

Last updated 2026-09-11

Use this database freely. It is a structured reference compiled from cited authorities, not veterinary or horticultural advice. If an animal has eaten something, call a vet rather than reading.

What this is not

ADULTPLANTS is a reference work. It is not a veterinary service, not a poison control line, and not professional horticultural advice. Nobody here holds a veterinary or horticultural credential, which is stated plainly on the methodology page rather than buried in this one.

In an emergency, stop reading and make a call. ASPCA Animal Poison Control is (888) 426-4435 and the Pet Poison Helpline is (855) 764-7661. Both charge a consultation fee. Your own veterinarian is better than either, and better than this site.

Accuracy, and its limits

Every factual claim traces to a named authority cited on the page, and each species lists every authority consulted, including those holding no record. That is a genuine standard, and it is still not a guarantee.

Authorities disagree, records go out of date, plants get misidentified in trade, and individual animals react differently to the same plant. Care intervals here are baselines for a 6-inch pot indoors, not instructions for your specific plant in your specific room. Where sources conflict we publish both rather than choosing, so some pages will tell you the answer is unsettled. That is the honest state of the evidence, not an evasion.

Found something wrong? Send the page and the source that contradicts it to [email protected]. We would rather carry a dated correction than a quiet edit.

Using our content

Quote us, cite us, and link to us. Machine access is welcome: our llms.txt exists specifically so AI systems can read and cite this database accurately, and our robots.txt deliberately permits both training and retrieval crawlers. Being the source that gets cited is the point.

What we ask in return is attribution, and that you do not republish the database wholesale as your own. Photographs are a separate matter: they are licensed by their individual photographers under Creative Commons or public domain terms, named beneath each image. Those licences travel with the photograph and bind you directly, not us.

Commercial links

There is no advertising and there are no affiliate links on this site today. When there are, affiliate disclosure will appear before the first commission link on any page carrying one.

Ranking is derived from database fields and we do not accept payment for placement. That is enforced by an automated check that rejects commission, payout, EPC and CPC as sort fields, not merely promised here.

Liability

This site is provided as-is, without warranty. Decisions about your plants, your pets and your household are yours. We are not liable for outcomes arising from use of this information, and nothing here replaces professional advice from someone who can actually examine the plant or the animal.
